I’ve been following with interest lots of posts about using the 22lr as a practice round for Precision Rifle Shooting. It seems there are several platforms gaining popularity so I thought I should put some effort into adding to that list.

The Tikka T1X seemed the obvious choice as my Competition Chassis System, which is currently based around the Tikka T3 action will accept this barrelled action without modification. So a T1X was purchased and a comparison test day at the range was organised.

The idea was to bed the gun in and lead up the barrel, do two 5 shot accuracy tests at 100yards with two separate shooters, then fit the barreled action into the MBE chassis and repeat the accuracy test.

The Scope for this test was a Delta Javelin 4.5-30x56, which I have to say surprised me with its very high quality for the price tag.

We opted to run a sound moderator on this setup to take advantage of the already quiet sub-sonic rounds. Nice not to have to wear ear defenders for a change.

So my first impression was the original plastic stock does leave a lot to be desired but I suppose you get your money’s worth with the barrel and action. The bolt moves freely and smoothly and didn’t disappoint. The stock was short and felt uncomfortable to shoot in the prone position. Accuracy was not too bad at all.

Next, I installed it into a chassis. This only took around 5 to 10 mins max. Instantly you get a bigger gun feel. That’s an obvious comment I suppose but true. The accuracy did improve, not massively but none less an improvement, but the comfort level increased substantially.

I think anyone interested in a training rifle should have a good look at this option. COMING SOON TO OPTICS WAREHOUSE!
